Crushing COVID one arm at a time!

In January, Wildewood Downs committed to crushing COVID-19 one arm at a time! Members and team members received the first round of the COVID-19 vaccination. Everyone had waited so long for the vaccine and it was a lot of fun to celebrate this opportunity. To make it even better, our partners at Live Long Well Care sponsored and raffle off three lovely goodie baskets! As a delicious reward, Wellness Director Teka had a yummy trail mix for attendees on their way out!

“Swing” into Spring

In May, with the kickoff of Spring and warm weather, our Members celebrated their ‘Swing Into Spring’ with an outdoor baseball-themed event! Wildewood Downs welcomed Darlene & The Band, who brought the sounds of Bluegrass to all of our ears and had our toes tapping! The Dining Team served up ballpark favorites, hot dogs, loaded nachos, cold Gatorade, water, beer, and more! Our in-house home health agency, Live Long Well Care sponsored the concession stand complete with cupcakes, big league chew, sunflower seeds, and peanuts! On our front lawn we had family members, Members, and staff participate in a wiffle ball game that was a lot of fun to watch! After everyone enjoyed an outdoor lunch, attendees were treated to The Chillin Cow Ice Cream truck! Wellness Director, Teka, had everyone swinging for the fences with our inflatable batting cage and it was hit.

Carnival for a Cause

Come one, come all for the Greatest Show on Earth! The Carnival for a Cause Signature Experience was a full day of fun and games for Members at Wildewood Downs! Attendees started their day walking the “tightrope” with Wellness Director, Teka, then trying their luck at some carnival games!! Participants had their caricatures done, dunked on team members, and ate some delicious popcorn & cotton candy! During the carnival games, Wildewood Downs raised $400 for the Alzheimer’s Association! After the games, Members gathered in our beautiful bistro and enjoyed cotton candy cocktails!! 🍸 Dinner was a classic carnival staples like corn dogs, sausage dogs, curly fries, fried Oreos, Caramel apple slices, and can’t forget funnel cake! 😋 During dinner, Members were entertained by a juggler and a stilt-walking balloon artist! Members were so impressed and had a blast! 🎉

Aloha Luau

Our Aloha! Signature Experience was a day Members could not forget! Participants started with hula lessons from our very own Wellness Director, Teka! Each attendee received a festive skirt to sway back and forth as they learned the native dance of Hawaii! Speaker, Eric Shealy, from the Riverbanks Botanical Garden joined the community for a lecture! Eric taught us about botanical and tropical flowers, as well as orchids, and how to care for them! Members who attended went home with mini orchids! The Dining Services team helped transform our Dining Room into the perfect tropical escape for Members. The Dining Services team prepared pulled pork, Hawaiian fried rice, and pineapple coleslaw! Attendees sipped on Mai Tai’s and Piña Coladas in their souvenir coconut cups! To conclude the evening, the South Sea Dancers put on an incredible show attendees will never forget!

Viva Las Vegas with The King

“Viva Las Vegas, Viva Las Vegas!” The June Signature Experience brought the heat as our social programming team transformed our community into Las Vegas!

Member’s kicked it off with a “Roll the Dice” workout with Wellness Director, Teka! As Members rolled the dice, they found out what exercise they were doing and for how long. Afterward, our bistro was transformed into the Wildewood Casino! Our wonderful team members were dealers at our blackjack tables, poker, and roulette! Members were given “fun money” to buy chips and try their luck! When they were done they traded their chips in for raffle tickets to possibly win a prize during dinner! Attendees participated in a wine roulette fundraiser at the casino! Members donated $20 to spin the wheel and see which bottle of wine they were going home with! In a few short hours, the community raised $500 for the Alzheimer’s Association! Before our High Roller Dinner, there was a very special guest that had yet to make their appearance. It wouldn’t be a night in Vegas without Elvis! Jeff Keener from Keener Entertainment brought down the house with his performance! Members couldn’t get enough. The epic day ended with a delicious High Roller Dinner with prime rib, melted spinach, and an Elvis-inspired mini banana peanut butter dessert cup! Before Members were served, Magician John Tudor made his way around the room wowing us with his magic tricks! The raffle winner from the casino earlier went home with an awesome gift basket, and everyone got to gamble for one last prize! All attendees had a dice box with poker chips but only one Member at each table had 2 poker chips, this Member got to grab the scratch-off ticket in their centerpiece and 1 lucky member won their own poker set!
